This coloring book was created in early 2020, inspired by my recognition of the lack of positive father representation in children’s publishing. At a time when the conversation around women’s empowerment was (rightfully) growing stronger, I also noticed how men’s roles were often overlooked or diminished, contributing to a weakening of how fatherhood and male worth were perceived in society. In response, I set out to create a book filled with thoughtful, affirming examples of Black fathers and father figures — celebrating their presence, care, and importance in children’s lives.
These sketches are from in person and photo references. They capture movement form and expression and make up my portfolio of human figure studies.
This series celebrates the richness of tropical foliage, drawing inspiration from the plants that thrive in Nassau’s climate. The illustrations explore the diversity of form and texture found in leaves, fronds, and blossoms — each line and color choice emphasizing the rhythm and vitality of nature. Together, the works invite viewers to slow down and notice the quiet beauty of plants: their variety, resilience, and the patterns that connect them to the wider landscape.
These illustrations were created for a martial arts self-defense book centered on women’s safety in the modern era. Drawn from a series of one hundred photographic references, the images were reinterpreted through line work that emphasizes clarity, movement, and strength. Subtle alterations to the figures highlight resilience and empowerment, presenting women not as passive subjects but as active agents of defense and confidence.
