Straw Plaiting has a rich cultural history in the Bahamas and many of the crafts men and women are from the outer islands. The harvesting of the plant is primarily centered on 3 islands and makes the craft niche and generationally passed down.
Usually commission works come with their own challenges. Making a 610 sq ft wall surrounding a private padel court in the Bahamas‘ most private and elite residencies, Lyford Cay, disappear challenged my understanding of movement and the ever changing effect light has on color perception.
